hockey girlAs I watch the playoffs progress towards the Stanley Cup Final I can’t help but reflect on the lessons I’ve learned from hockey that serve me well in my trading.

Growing up in a small town in Canada meant hockey was a major focus. At the time, it wasn’t so common for girls to play hockey so I did the next best thing. I played shinny on the pond with my brothers and joined the local ringette team. I worked on my game and enhanced my skills to play and win at the Provincial Championship level along the way learning many things from the game that serve me well in my trading.

All I need to know I learned from Hockey

  1. I can’t win if I don’t get in the game
  2. Control myself or watch the game from the penalty box
  3. Play my own game
  4. Be present when it’s my shift
  5. Rest between shifts
  6. Play my position
  7. I can’t score if I don’t shoot
  8. I will miss all of the shots I don’t take
  9. Not every shot scores, but keep taking shots
  10. Celebrate when the playoffs are won
  11. Keep my head up and stay aware of the game
  12. Review the last game and then let it go
  13. Spend more time in the practice rink than the game rinks
  14. Focus on one thing, this shift, this pass, this shot
  15. A missed shot or lost game does not define me

What are the lessons you’ve learned from hockey or life that serve your trading? Drop me a comment, I’d love to know.
